Does God garner nutrition from people's devotion and worship?

Does he feed off of it and require it for sustenance? It doesn't seem likely. So why the worship--it must be for our own benefit? It just seems to be an excuse to overtly glorify values such as obedience, piety, and chastity, but what more it goes beyond that and even mandates such things and looks upon valor, individual pride and distinction as 'sin.'
